*Here's a description of what you will be doing and who you are working with:
You will be working with Kyampisi Childcare Ministries in Kampala, Uganda. There focus and goal is to “give vulnerable children physical, emotional and spiritual springboards which will enable them to live lives that are full, productive and positive.” They work with the entire community, transforming it for God.
Although their main focus is with children, they also reach out to the community to empower families, evangelize, construct buildings and visit hospitals.
As for additional packing needs (outside of the basic packing list that you have on your profile), you will need a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad. You will also need to have tents some of the time, so if you already have one, please bring it. However, they have some available, so if you do not have one, please do not feel the need to go out and buy one!
As for clothes, please bring one pair of good shoes to wear when you work in the villages—as most of their missions are village based. It can get muddy and the terrain is not always great. Ultimately what you wear on your feet is up to you, but this was a suggestion they had. For girls, they ask that you bring at least two skirts (as skirts are what you will need to wear when you are in the villages). These skirts must go past your knees. If your skirt is shorter than that you are viewed as “indecent” in this culture and it makes it much more difficult to do ministry.
I'm excited for you all! I loved my time in Uganda (I spent eight months right outside of Kampala). You are going to love it.
